Keith's Weekly Insights Tip #8--Read or Die Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, recently made a statement along the lines of "no one reads books anymore". As a huge fan of books and reading, it made me sad to think that he is probably right. However, this week, an article in the New York Times showed that in this instance, Mr. Jobs was clearly incorrect. Research done by the Associated Press showed that in 2007 twenty-seven percent of all Americans read 15 books a year. Fifty percent read 6 books a year. The article also pointed out that so far 60 million copies of The Da Vinci Code have been sold versus only 3.7 million I phones. I was thrilled to see I wasn't the only one still buying books. Staying current in business is like drinking water. You must do them both if you want to live. Some people are fond of saying if they don't exercise, they just don't "feel right". If I don't read at least 15 minutes a day, I am off my game. My MUST READ BUSINESS BOOKS are the following 1) The World Is Flat---Thomas Friedman If you are not a reader, its time to become one, tomorrow. Head down to Barnes and Noble and pick up a couple of these books. I read at least two to three books at a time. I also have a rule that for every one book for pleasure I read three business books.
