Keith's Weekly Insights Tip #3 --Be Authentic Would your kids be proud of your behaviors at work? As parents we do a lot of preaching, "Finish your homework, clean your room, be nice to your sister, don't talk back to your mother", etc. These commands pop out of our mouth almost as if by reflex. If for one day, your child had the ability to look and listen to you at work, without you knowing, how would you grade out on the following? Treating people the way you would like to be treated Showing up on time Don't make fun of people Pay attention one someone is speaking to you Lead by example Don't interrupt others when they are speaking Say please and thank you Think for yourself Do the right thing when no one is looking Always tell the truth I find that when I ask this question, people almost get uncomfortable. The purpose of the question isn't to make anyone feel silly. Its to get you to realize, that as the leader of your company, you set the tone for everything. Your employees and customers pay close attention to your behaviors. Words mean nothing, actions mean everything. If these parenting catch phrases are good enough for us to utter them on a daily basis to our kids, they should be good enough to use at our places of business. People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Keith Frein is the former Co-CEO and Co-Founder of PPR Travel. During Keith's tenure as Co-Founder, the company was ranked as the 5th, 7th and 8th best Small Company to work for in the United States by the Great Places to Work Institute. Keith has recently retired and is working on bringing a new nutritional beverage to market through relationship marketing. Please send comments or questions to keith081@gmail.com.
