The Green Scene
Kermit was wrong. It is easy being green. And these days becoming more environmentally friendly can earn you some serious free publicity. Never before has the news media been so interested in ways people are going green. Many national and local news outlets now have regular weekly segments that put a spotlight on folks who are being kind to the planet.
A California company was recently featured on several national news broadcasts because it makes diaper bags from recycled water bottles. The fabric feels soft and each bag saves 10 bottles from the landfills.
A hotel in South Africa made world headlines for raising worms to munch through a mountain of organic waste, reducing it to fertilizer for their gardens.
And a Fort Worth printing company recently made news for switching from a petroleum based ink to an ink made from soy.
If you or your organization is doing something special to be part of the green scene, make sure you contact a reporter. You just may end up cleaning up with the media.
