PR Event Speakers
Aimee, updated October 5, 2007
"PR Event" rings nicely in my ears. Every month, we are very happy and grateful to have special speakers from the news media sharing their insight and tips on free PR with our groups. I've invited Jeff Crilley several times in 2005 and 2006 to teach our new members on How To Get FREE Publicity. In June 2006, Jeff and I sat down for lunch one day to arrange yet another free event for our existing members, and those newly come aboard. During our discussion, we decided, "Hey, let's do it monthly!" So, I quickly formed the DFW Do-It-Yourself PR group in June 2006 with Jeff as our main speaker, inviting a special speaker from the media each month to speak to our audience.
July 17 and 19, 2006, we Kicked Off our 1st PR Event with Jeff and I. We had 135 and 95 attendees respectively at the two luncheons in Flower Mound. "Wow! This is like a big Jeff Crilley Reunion!" Jeff excitedly shared his grateful feeling with everyone in the room.
August 28 and 30, 2006, 2nd PR event, attendees, 85 and 108, with Jeff and guest speaker, Dave Lieber from the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram. Dave, a senior columnist, is a wonderful speaker. We learned a lot from Dave and his book is great. Dave gave me some wonderful tips on writing columns. Our audience enjoyed the meeting with excellent comments. Our attendance has grown so big at each PR event that it has grown bigger that the venue can hold each month. Hence, we had to split the monthly event into two days, back to back, each month. I felt that is overly demanding for our guest speakers from the media. So, the following month, we upgraded our PR event to Studio Movie Grill with 250 seats available, a huge room, excellent service, quality seating arrangement, large movie screen for Power Point presentations, and an excellent sound system to project all through the room.
September 21, 2006, 3rd PR event, attendees, 160. It was our first PR Event at Studio Movie Grill in Addison. Our news media speaker was from T.V. news, Victoria Snee, CW33 (then, WB33). Victoria talked to the audience about the do's & don'ts of how to get on TV news. We also did on-the-spot PR for attendees with business cards drawn from a fish bowl. This was highly appreciated by all.
October 21, 2006, 4th PR Event, attendees 250 and 39 vendors. We went back to Flower Mound for our October Fest with Jeff as the main media speaker. Many of our new members finally got the chance to hear Jeff speak and learned FREE Publicity from him. Our location sponsor was Pinewood Hills. This event was open to the public. We had radio ads, newspaper ads, and many invitations handed out and mailed. We printed 500 bags with Bags Sponsors on the front, programs filled with 20+ pages of advertisement, bag stuffers and more. November 29, 2006, 5th PR Event, attendees, 65. We were back in Studio Movie Grill in Addison with media speaker Tony Zazza from the radio station, Mix 102.9 FM and a special speaker Ken Bradford. Jeff Crilley got sick the last minute and lost his voice. After Tony and Ken spoke, our attendees gave their own testimony on the free PR they generated from what they've learned from Jeff's book and CD. We had a great time! December, we all were busy with the holidays, so we kept our meeting for January 2007.
January 8, 2007, 6th PR Event, Attendees, 118. Great event for our New Year Kick Off Luncheon for 2007. Our featured speakers were Steve Blow from Dallas Morning News and Lanny Bassham from Mental Management. Steve was most knowledgeable in his field. We were very honored to have him join us on the 8th. Lanny from Mental Management packed our time with information. Lanny gave us three very valuable tips, which he will share with us in detail on March 9th.
February 12, 2007, 7th PR Event, highest headcount so far, 165 attendees. Our speakers were Jeff Bolton from 570 KLIF & Marc Harty, the internet marketing guru. The room was packed with people networking, talking with each other, with our speaker Mark Harty, and our news media speaker, Jeff Bolton. Mark Harty gained much success through his skills on marketing on the internet. Mark covered what internet marketers need to do in order to gain success through the internet.
March 5, 2007, 8th PR Event, Attendees, 110. News Media Speaker, Huntley Paton, publisher of the Dallas Business Journal, Bruce Bordelon from Google & Steve Woodall from The Speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway. We were very privileged to have Cheryl Jackson interview our speakers with Daryl volunteering to video record for online viewing. All speakers passionately shared their insight in the areas of their expertise. Huntley shared with us the important people in his Dallas Business Journal on getting news into his papers. Huntley has been covering news important to business leaders and entrepreneurs for 30 years. Bruce showed us the fantastic features that Google has for us business folks to use for the betterment of our businesses success. This event today was the most fantastic one with three very valuable speakers, two from the news media- Jeff and Huntley and Bruce from Google, and our special guest, Steve Woodrall from the speedway Club at Texas Motor Speedway.
