Monica Egert Smith

Monica Egert Smith joined The Dallas Morning News in June of 1999 as a community services programs coordinator. In 2002, she assumed the role of community services operations manager, and in October of 2005, was promoted to senior director of community services. In her current position she is responsible for a team of nine people that coordinate sponsorships and community outreach programs for Belo’s Dallas-based companies and products, including The Dallas Morning News, WFAA-TV, Al Dia and Quick. She also serves as Administrator of The Dallas Morning News Charities, the newspaper’s annual fundraising campaign that supports agencies that serve the hungry and homeless in our community.
Before coming to The Morning News, Monica was a communications officer for the Ohio Bicentennial Commission, where she worked to raise awareness about Ohio’s 200th birthday in 2003. A native of Canton, Ohio, Monica earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University. After graduating she worked as a radio news anchor at WTVN-AM, a top-rated newsradio station in Columbus, Ohio.
Monica is a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. She is a graduate of the Dallas Business Committee for the Arts’ Leadership Arts program, and is a former board member of The Classics, a nonprofit organization that provides theater and art experiences for children. Monica currently serves on the board of Volunteers of America Texas. She is a member of the Greater Dallas Chamber’s 2007-08 Leadership Dallas class, and is also a member of the Dallas Contributors Network. She and her husband, Tom, live in Frisco.
