I admit it – I'm a big Starbuck's Coffee fan. I've been going there for years. What I didn't know, however, was that I was sitting on a "soil gold mine" of sorts. I recently discovered that you can go in and ask them if they have any used coffee grounds. If they do, they will gladly hand them off to you... FOR FREE. Let me repeat that... FREE.
Sometimes, if you walk in at the right time, they'll have the coffee grounds already prepared in a neat foil package and put in a bin or pail in front of the counter for whoever wants. On two occasions, the bag they gave me had to have weighed 30-40 pounds...WOW. Either way, it's something they were going to throw away anyway. What an organic waste in my opinion! I've mixed it into my soil "recipe" for seed-starting, as well as in the garden and flower beds.
Even if your not an expresso or latte junkie, you should consider this opportunity for a free soil-improver. I can almost hear my transplants complaining that they are staying awake all the time!
